Your Weekly Briefing
Are your competitors buying reviews?
Your competitors are buying their good reviews - right? They must be. I mean, it's very hard to get your customers to take a break in their very busy day to click a link, then a button, then another button. So how is your competitor getting so many of them all the time? Are they buying them, or are they working hard for them?
Well, we're likely going to find out soon enough. The FTC just proposed a new rule that would make it illegal for companies to buy or sell fake reviews. In the next 60 days we'll have more details on whether this proposal is approved, and shortly after that we may see some of your suspicious competitors getting fewer reviews, and ranking lower as a result. You can read more about this here. It's worth checking out since the fines can be pretttttey prettttttey hefty! I'm sure this is a relief and not a warning for all of you ;)
In other review news, Bing will start summarizing reviews for products and services in their AI search results to make it easier for potential customers to quickly get the gist of what's good and not without having to read all reviews. It sounds like a pretty useful feature so we may end up seeing this on Google Maps as well.
