4 Local Marketing Updates You Should Know This Week

Lots is happening in the local marketing world this week, but don't worry, we'll break it down quickly so you can get on with your day, doing whatever it is that you do. We'll also let you know about a new free marketing tool we just released. And yes, this is the only newsletter you receive that's still written by an actual person and not AI.

Alright, let's go!

  1. Bing Search is taking off! How do we know? Microsoft announced double digital growth in their search advertising revenue, fueled by more people using Bing, likely for their AI search features. Bing Search is not likely to disrupt local marketing just yet since they rely on Google Business Profile data, and the search volume is mostly on desktops and doesn't add up to much. Also, as Google catches up Bing adoption will likely slow down.

  2. Instagram is testing a "Nearby" feed in Stories, which, you guessed it, features content from nearby people and businesses. Google Maps has a similar feature already, and I can't say I've used it more than once.

  3. We've written a lot about how efficient Google has gotten with taking down fake reviews. Well, Amazon, Trustpilot, TripAdvisor, Expedia and others have created a coalition (source) to help each other fight back against fake reviews to bring trust back into online reviews. This initiative is awesome to see since it's going to benefit all consumers, and even more, businesses that are doing a great job getting authentic 5-star Google reviews. Need ideas for getting more reviews? Reply to this email.

  4. Now, instead of showing a video like we usually would, this week we're announcing a brand new free marketing tool we've created for local marketers. We wanted to give it to you so quickly that we haven't even properly named it yet. For now, let's just call it our "Heatmap Ranking Audit Tool". It can show you how high your business is ranking for different keywords all around your city. It's prettttttty, prettttttttttty, prettttttttty cool, if I may say so myself!
